Spud Country Print

There’s a saying us Taswegians use, and it’s where the word ‘spuds’ comes from. Along the North West coast of this beautiful island we have the richest, most delicious red soil, perfect for potato growing. Lots of the farmers supply Simplot who turn the spuds into the chips you get at Maccas and KFC. Along the NW there are towns that are perfect for such a farm, in order from far NW to the middle of the north coast - Stanley, Penguin, Ulverstone, Devonport, Sassafras. SPUDS. This is tommeginne country.

 This is the area I grew up in and still live today. It’s a gorgeous landscape with rolling hills, patchwork paddocks and the best spuds going around. You ask any Tasmanian who has moved to the mainland - they miss their Tassie spuds.
